Silverado Soaring is an affordable way to enjoy the sport of soaring. Our club is a friendly group of glider pilots that operate out of Truckee, CA during the summer months and out of Minden, NV, Crazy Creek (Middletown, CA) in the wine country, and Williams, CA during the winter months.
It is our aim to provide opportunities for flight in relatively modern, well-maintained sailplanes at attractive soaring locations for very reasonable costs. Silverado operates three dual place sailplanes - two Grob 103's and a DG-505.
There are no per hour or per flight charges for the use of the gliders, just tow fees for tows obtained from the FBO's where our gliders are based. Silverado wants to encourage plenty of flying to maintain proficiency.
All gliders are equipped with radios and oxygen systems, plus the club provides a parachute for each seat. The gliders may be flown any day the FBO is operating. |

Depending on the season, our three gliders are located across 4 incredible flying locations.
Soar Truckee - Soar Truckee is a world class soaring destination and FBO. They provide rides, instruction and tows between mid May and mid Oct. Camp sites are available as well as a bunkhouse and a modern camper trailer with reservations. Record length flights are made many days of each month during the summer and the Soar Truckee staff has a great BBQ every Saturday night.
Minden - Located in the Carson Valley, Minden-Douglass field is the home of amazing soaring records for altitude. We keep one of our Grob G-103's at Minden during the winter months and you can buy a tow from Soaring NV 7 days a week. Soaring NV provides tows, instruction equipment for wave flights and area checkouts.
Crazy Creek - Crazy Creek is a private field in Middletown, Ca - just 30 minutes east of Calistoga. The flying can be good at Crazy Creek any month of the year, but the spring and fall seem to provide some of the best flying. We currently keep our second Grob G-103 here all year round. Jim Indrebo and wife Connie have run this operation for over 30 years, starting out much closer to Calistoga in the early years. Jim offers tows 5 days a week
Williams - Williams Soaring Center in Williams, CA is located about 40 minutes north of Sacramento on Hwy 5. WSC is a full service Glider FBO with instruction, sales, service, tows, equipment - they have it all. The flying over the winter months can be great, especially in the spring and fall.
